Friday/Weekend Open Thread: Building Our Voice

As one of the members of this community said to me in an email, we, along with a few others have the potential to become a place online for smart, sensible progressives to gather, get and give information, and get activated.  Activated, that is, based on passion and long term commitment to our cause, rather than on the latest (p)outrage of the day.  The question is, how do we do it?

Let me be clear about one thing: we don't have what the establishment blogosphere does: money.  We're not doing this for money.  But it means that we are dependent on technology that's provided for free, and are not technical superstars that can make our sites sing and dance.  What we do have are cool heads, dedication, and respect.  So let's talk about how we can leverage that.  I'd like to hear from you about what you'd like to see on this site.  Not just in terms of content but in terms of capabilities, community building, resources, etc.

Here's one idea I have on the table right now: building a resource library for both activism and information.  On the information front, a place for recent documents, publications (Scribd, for example - I publish there sometimes, if any of you do too, let me know).  What are the other free resources on the web we can use?  Should we be doing petitions (there are some free petition sites, and  What else could be done to inform, activate and engage?
