Boxer Hits Fiorina Hard in New Ad

If progressives are looking for a Senate race in which they can be proud of fighting for probably the liberal conscience of the Senate, I have got it in my home state of California - the race between progressive champion and devoted California public servant Sen. Barbara Boxer, and the privileged, jobs-offshoring, golden-parachuted, fired former HP CEO Carly Fiorina.  I reported on the debate they had in which Boxer cleaned Fiorina's clock big time.

Fiorina has thus far sunk $5.5 million of her own money into her Senate campaign, more than half of her total raised.  In between loaning her golden parachute cash to her own campaign and whining about Barbara Boxer's hair, Carly Fiorina has found plenty of time to blame all the ill effects of the Bush administration policy on our state on Sen. Boxer.  Well, Sen. Boxer has hit back, and she has hit back hard.  Here's her new ad, "Outsourcing:"

Announcer: As the CEO of HP, Carly Fiorina laid of 30,000 workers.

Fiorina: When you're talking about massive layoffs, as we did... perhaps the work needs to be done somewhere else.

Announcer: Fiorina shipped jobs to China, and while Californians lost their jobs, Fiorina tripled her salary, bought a million-dollar yacht, and five corporate jets.

Fiorina: I'm proud of what I did at HP.

Announcer: Carly Fiorina.  Outsourcing jobs.  Out for herself.

Boxer: I'm Barbara Boxer, and I apporve this message.
Let's recount them real quick, shall we? Fiorina shipped 30,000 jobs overseas. And as you heard in the ad in her own voice - she's damn proud of doing it, too. "Perhaps the work needs to be done somewhere else," says Ms. I'll-create-jobs. She will; just not in the United States.

Fiorina, who loves to criticize Barbara Boxer for having her public servant salary double in 28 years of service for Californians, tripled her own salary at HP in less than six years (July 1999 to February 2005). An interesting sidenote: it turns out that inflation between 1982 and 2010 is 118%, so in fact, Boxer's salary, adjusted for inflation, did not increase at all. In contrast, the inflation between 1999 and 2005 was 29%, meaning Fiorina's inflation adjusted salary grew by nearly two-and-a-half times. This is not even to mention the $21 million golden parachute she got while being fired, the million-dollar yacht and the five corporate jets she bought (you sure you're going to be able to make it on a Senator's salary, Ms. Fiorina?). Be careful what tree you're barking up, Ms. Golden Parachute.

Let's make sure this sorry excuse for leadership does not get anywhere close to the Senate chamber, shall we?  Show Barbara Boxer some love!  Can't donate?  That's ok. Sign up to volunteer.  Live in another state and can't donate?  Go help Barbara Boxer by making some phone calls through

Fiorina may think she's buying the Senate seat fair and square, but she doesn't know Barbara Boxer.  She doesn't understand that when she steps into the ring, Boxer fights for us, and there are a whole heck of a lot of us fighting for her right now.

Boxer didn't just hit Fiorina hard.  She has also launched a new ad telling Californians why she is the person for the job.  She - and we - want to see the words "Made in America" again.

Announcer: Barbara Boxer. She fought to get our veterans the first full combat care center in California. Her after-school law's keeping a million kids off the street and out of gangs. And she's fighting every day to create new jobs.

Boxer: I'm working to make California the leader in clean energy, to jump start our small businesses: tax credits and loans to create thousands more California jobs. I'm Barbara Boxer and I approve this message, because I want to see the words "Made in America" again.
There's a Senator California's and America's veterans can depend on, and that is Barbara Boxer.  She is a champion for children, public education, and clean energy.

Let's not forget that Boxer chairs the Senate Environment and Public Works committee.  Do you know who the Republicans would pick to Chair that committee?  James Inhofe.  Yes, that James Inhofe.  The climate change denier - I guess he thinks it's just God hugging us closer - who built an igloo mocking Al Gore because you know, it snowed in Washington, therefore disproving climate change!  Do you know who knows how to put the petulant Inhofe in his place?  Barbara Boxer.

Boxer is right.  Elections have consequences.  This one will, too.  That's why we need Barbara Boxer.  Californians and progressives from every corner of the country need Barbara Boxer throwing the punches and fighting by our side.  Send a donation (every penny matters), sign up to volunteer, or sign up to make calls for Barbara Boxer right now!
