Weekend self-care open thread: The music of the jamming Joe Jackson
No, I don’t mean Michael’s father.
I’m talking about Joe Jackson, originally from England, now mostly from New York City.
If you grew up in the 70s and 80s, and listened to a particular brand of radio station, Joe was the cool face of New Wave. Although, you could never pin him down to being New Wave. His musical palette was (and is) always too wide-ranging to be confined by one genre. His music was inflected by jazz and Broadway and classical. Indeed, in his later years, much like compatriot Elvis Costello, he has written “serious” art music for the concert arena.
But, of course, as a kid growing up in New York City, “Steppin’ Out” was one of my anthems. Its sophisticated textures were tailor-made for someone from the metropolis.
So, for this weekend’s self-care thread, let’s have a few cuppas Joe.
As always, care for yourselves and others.
