The Manchurian "President"
For the past few days, we’ve heard rumors that a member of the intelligence community was so alarmed by a security breach that he or she went to the intelligence community’s inspector general and blew the whistle.
Last night, the Washington Post broke some of the details in the story. And yes, at the center of the revelations is Donald Trump.
The whistleblower complaint that has triggered a tense showdown between the U.S. intelligence community and Congress involves President Trump’s communications with a foreign leader, according to two former U.S. officials familiar with the matter.
Trump’s interaction with the foreign leader included a “promise” that was regarded as so troubling that it prompted an official in the U.S. intelligence community to file a formal whistleblower complaint with the inspector general for the intelligence community, said the former officials, speaking on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the matter publicly.
As of yet, we don’t know with whom Trump spoke, or what the “promise” entailed. But it was obviously so alarming that this IC professional felt duty-bound to report the interaction.
Considering Trump’s fondness for dictators, it could have been anyone from Vladimir Putin to Kim Jong Un. The promise could have been military aid, money, or bettering of relations. We don’t know, because the acting Director of National Intelligence is refusing to hand over the complaint as required by law.
Although we’ve always assumed Trump was a traitor, but we’ve never had evidence with this degree of granularity. Whatever happened, it’s of such importance that the usual denials aren’t working. Somehow, Trump committed an act which betrayed this country, and he’s desperate to keep it out of a public forum.
The regime may try to keep this secret all it wants, but as with everything surrounding this cabal, it will eventually get out. Will any of Trump’s lickspittles really want to fall on their swords for a man who shows no loyalty and has nothing but disdain for them? What Trump is doing is upending the delicate balance of forces which has kept this Republic afloat for over 200 years. He’s trashing democratic norms because at heart he doesn’t believe in them. He doesn’t see himself as a custodian of two centuries of precedent, but as an anointed king who can do as he pleases. He will find, to his destruction, this is not the case.
