I’m still processing the cataclysmic events of the past 48 hours. We’re either inching towards a race war (I think not), or approaching the event horizon on calling the Occupant’s regime for what it is: a regime which wants to institute an authoritarian, white-nationalist state. It’s the latter option which seems to be in the lead right now. And this is heartening.
The cynics and the hopeless always cast humanity as beyond redemption. That’s a facile way of viewing things. The fact is that most humans just want to live their lives in peace. They want to raise families, they want to work, they want to enjoy their lives. The do not want to be riven by war and violence.
This, I wager, includes most of Moron’s voters. While they will have to answer—if only to themselves—for their votes, I truly don’t believe that “race war” was what was on their minds when pulling the lever for the Occupant. Fear of a browning America? Definitely. Two pogroms in one 24 hour period? No, to quote the poet, that’s not what I meant at all.
We’re going to go through Hell for the next 18 months. Having each others’ backs is what will get us through it, and perhaps to a better place on the other side.
