Weekend Open Thread - The Marvelous, Magical, Magnificent Muppets

To laugh is to live.

In the age of Trump, we all need to laugh from time to time. We have to. We’re living in absurdist times with an absurd head of government. Our grandchildren will ask us what it was like living during these times and we will tell them that we all drank heavily to endure each and every day and that we awoke every morning wondering if and when World War III would be announced via something called a tweet. None of it was natural and none of it was normal. We all worked our asses off to remove the man who was a permanent stain on our history but in doing so, we all needed an outlet from time to time to help bring joy and pleasure to keep us sane.

With that in mind, I offer to you all one of my personal releases: comedy. Specifically, I bring forth the amazing Muppets. As a millennial, I grew up on The Muppets and Muppet Babies but even today I find them to be endlessly entertaining. I frequently use Muppet gifs on social media and anytime there’s a new Muppet video on YouTube, my heart skips a beat. They are kind, they are clever, and they are crafty but most of all they are comedic geniuses. It’s hard to create humor that appeals across the generations and The Muppets do it seamlessly every time. Jim Henson has left a remarkable legacy, one that not only entertained a generation of children but also one that now provides relief for a generation of adults stuck fighting a human manbaby who has never smiled or laughed a day in his life. To keep us sane, I present to you the best of The Muppets and I hope your laughter helps you cope with all that we have to endure.

As always, take care of yourselves and your loved ones this weekend.
