Weekend self-care open thread—Music from around the world
The term “world music” is one I don’t much like. It seeks to categorize the panoply of the world’s musical forms into something easily digestible by a Western audience. It’s a continuation of the exoticization of non-Western cultures.
However, my how the world is full of music. Music is the one common language we share. You can be a Valley girl on holiday in Morocco, and be at a concert, and you will sway and clap with everyone else. Music is what levels us all as members of the human species.
So for this weekend’s self-care, some selections of music from around the world. There are literally millions of examples you can find.
Take a few moments to feed your souls this weekend with the music which suffuses every part of our globe.
As always, care for yourselves and others.
