Conservatives afraid of brown people: UK edition

Well, it’s official. Boris Johnson, that insufferable popinjay, is now Her Majesty’s prime minister.

Now, here in the colonies, those of us opposed to Donald Trump are rightfully incensed that he’s squatting in the White House while losing the popular vote by 3 million.

However, get a load of this.

The race for prime minister wasn’t decided in a general election. Theresa May stepped down as prime minister and leader of the Conservatives. The Tories weren’t about to call another election in which they’d probably lose their majority. So, in the time honored tradition, they held a leadership contest to replace May. The winner of that contest would become prime minister.

The decision was in the hands of Tory party members. Johnson won that vote, 92,153 to rival Jeremy Hunt’s 46,656. That’s right. The new head of government of a country of some 66 million people was selected by 92,000 voters. If that’s not some anti-democratic bullshite, I don’t know what is.

But conservatives on both sides of the pond aren’t too concerned with democracy these days. They are perfectly fine with minority rule. The brown hordes are swarming over their borders, and no means are foul to stem the tide.

Brexit was the canary in the coal mine. Many people I respect to this day said at the time that the same couldn’t happen here. That Britain was browning, but not to the extent that the US was. That demography was destiny.

But in the back of my mind I had this inchoate fear. It was my canary chirping. There are so many commonalities between the cousins that I wondered if it could happen here. And, lo and behold, it did.

We can rail against Vladimir Putin all we want. The fact is that his ministrations would have had no effect had he not had fertile soil to till.

Too many white people see immigration not as a boon which will save them when they retire and keep Social Security and Medicare solvent. They see it as their country being overrun by people they don’t like. They fear that what they’ve done to non-whites will be returned three-fold upon them and their progeny. They would rather burn it all down and live in penury than realize that a population which isn’t replacing itself needs a steady stream of migrants just to keep the lights on.

The UK, like the US, has seen an explosion of racist incidents and hate crimes. Brexit wasn’t about “taking back control”. It was about keeping the foreigners out. It was the precursor to Donald Trump. And now they have the avatar of Brexit sitting in No. 10. He’s quite willing to crash out of the EU with no deal. This would be a geopolitical and economic disaster not just for the UK, but for Europe as well. But at least the darkies will know their place.

Eventually, demography will be destiny, but not without a lot of pain first. L’ancien regime will use every method fair and foul to hold onto power. Mitch McConnell stacking the courts is part of this ploy. We won’t turn into Gilead; but we won’t be Star Trek for a while, either.
