Wednesday news mish mash
I had planned to blog about cats, but news intervened. To the reports!
First off, welcome Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, aka Meghan and Harry’s boy. I did a little digging—and by “digging” I mean that I read this BBC article—and it seems that Baby Sussex will not have a title. He could have been Earl of Dumbarton, or Lord Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, but the parents chose to not ennoble him. He will be known as Master Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. Now, if Prince Charles ever actually ascends the throne as Charles III, then Master Archie could become Prince Archie. But it seems that his folks are trying to give him a relatively “normal” upbringing. Good on them.
Now, on to the meat.
As reported last night, Attorney General William Barr called on the White House to exert executive privilege over the Mueller report if the House moved to hold him in contempt of Congress. Today, Moron Hitler did just that.
This is farcical on every level. The report has already been released. Privilege had been waved when it was released. To now assert retroactive privilege is nothing but a Hail Mary pass by a regime which is circling down the drain. Of course it’ll go to court, and by that I mean that it won’t be dragged out for months. And the regime will lose. But in the meantime, it will strike another blow against Congressional oversight. The “imperial presidency” has been a common trope ever since the end of World War II, when the exigencies of the Cold War made presidents much more powerful than their 19th century predecessors. But what Trump is doing is, in fact, trying to turn himself into an autocrat. We have the blessed good fortune that he’s a moron, and is surrounded by morons. While I have no doubt that Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats will act, act they must, not for their own interests, but in the interests of Constitutional order. Oddly enough, Trump’s regime may be what finally puts the nail in the imperial executive.
On to the ridiculous.
Former Trump consigliere Michael Cohen’s Revenge Tour keeps rolling. In a just released tape, he calls RNC chair and Mitt Romney’s niece Ronna McDaniel “one of the worst human beings.” Really, it seems like he taped every conversation he ever had, which is par for the course for someone working for Donald Trump. One can assume he’s turned over everything to both the Southern District of New York and the New York Attorney General. Trumpworld should be very afraid about what he recorded.
That’s it for now. Share your own news in the thread.
