Weekend self-care open thread—The curse of 27
This weekend’s self-care thread was inspired by our own Darksnark:
Robert Johnson, considered by many to be the greatest blues guitarist of all time
His work influenced everybody from Muddy Waters, to Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, George Thorogood, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, the Beatles, and Led Zeppelin.
Legend has it that he was once a young mediocre musician grieving the loss of his wife and newborn baby when he traveled to a country crossroads and begged supernatural powers for musical greatness. Then Satan appeared and granted his wish in exchange for his immortal soul. Johnson took the deal, became a big hit, but was murdered at 27 by a honky-tonk women's jealous husband who poisoned Johnson's whiskey.
Thus began the 'Curse of 27'; which claims outstanding musicians at age 27 - often musicians influenced by Johnson's blues.
For this weekend’s self-care, we’ll visit the music of those taken too young from us.
Take care of yourselves, and those around you.
