Lock him up and throw away the keys: Mueller throws the book at Manafort
Special Counsel Bob Mueller has filed his sentencing memorandum in the Washington, DC circuit court against Paul Manafort, after releasing the same in their Virginia case, which laid out the case for over $50 million in fines and a quarter century in prison. Today’s DC filing raises the possibility of another possible 20-year sentence, which Mueller suggests can (and probably should) run consecutively rather than concurrently.
It appears also that Mueller doesn’t think Paul Manafort should ever see the outside of prison walls again, saying that if he is ever released, he poses a “grave risk of recidivism”.
This is basically prosecutor speak for “Lock him up and throw away the keys.”
But if Manafort is banking on a pardon from his co-conspirator Donald Trump, he will be disappointed. Prosecutors in New York appear ready to charge him with tax and other crimes in the state, which Trump cannot pardon against, and which can also carry a sentence that will put Manafort away for the rest of his natural life.
This guy is done.
