Impeachment Day #11 Open Thread
On tap for today:
1. A joint press conference by Nancy Pelosi and Adam Schiff at 10:45 on C-SPAN
-DC’s favorite power couple, kicking ass and taking names as always.
2. State Department’s Inspector General to give urgent briefing on Ukraine
-Steve Linick is expected to meet with congressional staff in a secure location on Capitol Hill. For those unaware, the Inspector General is the State Department’s internal investigator and watchdog and operates independently of the department’s political leadership. Therefore, Linick is no Pompeo laptop and the briefing could very well detail the shady dealings of the State Department with their role in coordinating Rudy Giuliani’s interactions with Ukrainian officials.
3. Trump’s Department of Justice to file a submission in the SDNY case regarding Trump’s tax returns
-The sovereign district of New York has long been seen as an independent court system. But now, it seems as if Billy Barr is threatening that freedom. The DOJ is expected to argue that Trump cannot be subject to a criminal investigation while he is president even if it is a state case. Yup, you read that right: states’ rights Republicans don’t like them states rights when that state happens to be wanting to hold the president accountable. Reading the submission should be legal comedy gold Jerry, gold!
May we live in interesting times. This is your impeachment day #11 open thread.
