A much needed weekend self-care open thread
I want to reiterate what I wrote many moons ago when I began this series of self-care open threads on weekends: Self-care is a political act.
Why? Because Trump and his allies want to exhaust us. They want to keep us so enraged, so apoplectic, that we have no time to breathe. They want us to be consumed with anger and hopelessness. They want all the focus to be on them and their actions, so that we don't have a moment to just be.
When we take time out to care for ourselves, we're telling them that no, they're not the center of our universes. There's more to us than worry, than anxiety. We are strong because we can detach, refresh, re-energize, and then reenter the fray. They are not our masters; we master our own lives.
So, I implore you: If you need a break, take it. Read. Listen to music. Walk the dog. Sit on the edge of the ocean. Disconnect for a while from the political reality. The rest of us will take up the slack. And then, when you return, you can give one of us a break. Do not become like our enemies, consumed with animus, spiraling down into perdition.
For this weekend's open thread, flashmobs. Why? They never fail to make me happy. Add yours in the comments.
Please, take care of yourselves, and those around you.
Like what you read? Chip in, keep us going.
