The end game in sight?
I was originally going to title this post "Oh frabjous day, calloo callay! he chortled in his joy".
But serious things are happening, and as much as I can I need to be serious.
First thing's first: Paul Manafort, after not only pushing the envelope on the conditions of his bail but shredding it, has been remanded to prison to await his two trials.
This shows Paulie is nothing be a wannabe gangster. A true mobster would have murdered witnesses against him. All Paulie tried to do was to contact them and tamper with them, which they they quickly reported to the FBI. No one is actually afraid of anyone in the Trump orbit. The stench of death hangs about them.
Now on to Mickey Cohen. CNN reports that Cohen has told family and friends that he's willing to cooperate with Bob Mueller. This can mean only one thing: He's about to flip. Combine this with Manafort being squeezed in jail, and we're looking at the total collapse of the Trump regime. (Also add yesterday's news to this.) It's no surprise that the rats are turning on King Rat. Trump never engendered loyalty. Associates were with him for various reasons—being close to fame, the pecuniary benefits they derived—but Trump has never shown any loyalty to anyone, not even his family. Eventually the light bulb goes on: He doesn't care about you.
Then, there's the bizarre rant he went on on Fox & Friends.
That's right, Trump wishes all of us fractious Americans stood to attention when he speaks. On national television, he left no doubt as to his dictatorial aspiration. It's no surprise that he doesn't see the presidency as a chance to serve; we all knew he sees it as a meth hit to his ego. But to have him so blatantly pronounce it is shocking in its stupidity. Combine this with RNC Chair Ronna Romney's tweet castigating those who question Orange Leader and we have all the evidence we need that the GOP is a clear and present danger to the Republic. It cannot be saved. Much like Germany after 1945, this country will have to go through a de-Republicanization after we retake the country. The GOP is nothing but a cult.
Donald Trump and the GOP are on the ropes. This is no time to call for a time out. This is the time to go in for the kill. And I do mean "kill", at least in a political sense. We as a people have dealt with the rapid degeneration of the Republican Party since the 1950s. It has done nothing but stymie progress and the common good as it has become more extreme. No one even remembers that liberals like Nelson Rockefeller served as vice-president as recently as 1976. The GOP has turned itself into a cesspit of animus and grievance. It has thrown its lot in with bitter white Americans who are apoplexed that they're living worse lives than their parents, and seek a convenient scapegoat. Trumpism predates Trump, as I say over and over; Trump is merely its perfect exponent.
Finish them off. You know they want to do it to us.
