Monday morning open thread—Neil deGrasse Tyson on ignorance
Anti-intellectualism is nothing new. Demagogues use it to their advantage, to whip up "normal folks" against those "elites" who think the know better than the "common man".
But in a world which depends on education to keep it running, anti-intellectualism is an outright threat to humanity. We see it in the people Trump has appointed to his cabinet, a collection of know-nothings and morons which this country has never seen.
I will be the first to say that anyone, including intellectuals, can get lost in the weeds. But to disparage learning is something which will not end well for any nation. Joe the Plumber isn't going to keep the satellites which connect the world running.
For today's open thread, a few words from Neil deGrasse Tyson.
