Shocking news from the Supreme Court
In trying to highlight news outside of the White House shitshow, but yet tie it to that travesty, today the Supreme Court issued a stunning decision.
That's right, folks. The judge for whom Mitch McConnell held Antonin Scalia's seat open sided with the liberal wing of the Court and dealt a blow to the Trump Justice Department.
Now, I don't expect that Gorsuch is a closet liberal about to bite Trump on the rear the way Justice Souter did to GHW Bush. But this is an indication that not all things are as they appear to be. And if Justice Gorsuch issued such a ruling, we should expect at least a few more surprises as decisions come rolling out over the next two months.
What this decision does do is give me a certain schadenfreude. In Justice Gorsuch, Trump was expecting someone to side with him in all instances. The fact that in the very first decision handed down by the Court for this session Gorsuch has gone against him is further proof that everything Trump touches turns to ash. Gorsuch was nominated by Trump, but one can't say he's "Trump's man". He can't even find his own Clarence Thomas, but instead assented to someone who, at least by this case, seems as if he will go against the Regime some of the time.
If there's going to be an attempt at a fascist coup in this Republic, we should be grateful that not only are our institutions seemingly strong enough to resist it, but the putschists are rank morons.
