Open thread—Election Day minus 1
Two years of resistance have led up to this.
Tens of millions of voters have already made their voices heard. Tomorrow tens of millions more will speak.
Will they repudiate the villainy of the Trump regime? Or will they accept it because “Oh look, the economy is booming”?
As I wrote last week, the GOP should be in the catbird’s seat due to an economy—albeit one they had nothing to do with. But they’re not. The last batch of polling before tomorrow still favors Democrats to take the House. Trumpian toxicity trumps any good feelings a majority of Americans might have for the economy. And, of course, there are hints at danger on that front; just today, Lowe’s announced it was closing 51 stores. That’s not something which happens in a booming economy.
Remember: the polling in 2016 got Hillary Clinton’s popular vote margin right. That makes me more sanguine about the generic ballot polling. I’m not going into tomorrow thinking it’s a slam dunk; but I am going into the day with some confidence.
Fortify yourselves. Make a few last calls. Make sure to vote. And then settle in. It’ll be a long two days.
