Two words

Fuck you.

Those are my two words.

Fuck you to gun fetishists who think that their "right" to own an arsenal trump my right to make it through the day without being shot dead.

Fuck you to Second Amendment absolutists who claim that any common sense restrictions on guns are a blow to liberty.

Fuck you to those who reread that same Second Amendment. Want to read it? Here it is.

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

The "right to bear arms", in the plain meaning of the text, is a corollary to the necessity of a militia. The last time I checked, people aren't exactly being called up to join volunteer brigades.

Fuck you, also, to those who completely misread that Second Amendment and say that guns are necessary to fight tyranny. I had a "friend" once who made that argument. We are no longer friends. Yes, big bad man, you think you're going to go up against the world's strongest military. You think tyranny is just around the corner. What you're doing is enabling tens of thousands of deaths across the country, senseless, lives snuffed out for no reason than your own paranoid fantasies.

Fuck you, of course, to the NRA. This is what one former NRA head had to say about gun control:

In 1929, Al Capone’s St. Valentine’s Day massacre saw men disguised as Chicago police kill 7 rivals with machine guns. Bonnie and Clyde’s crime-and-gun spree from 1932-34 was a national sensation. John Dellinger robbed 10 banks in 1933 and fired a machine gun as he sped away. A new president in 1933, Franklin D. Roosevelt, made fighting crime and gun control part of his ‘New Deal.’ The NRA helped him draft the first federal gun controls: 1934’s National Firearms Act and 1938’s Gun Control Act.

The NRA President at the time, Karl T. Frederick, a 1920 Olympic gold-medal winner for marksmanship who became a lawyer, praised the new state gun controls in Congress. “I have never believed in the general practice of carrying weapons,” he testified before the 1938 law was passed. “I do not believe in the general promiscuous toting of guns. I think it should be sharply restricted and only under licenses.”

Now, of course, the solution is to have everyone packing heat. Good guys with guns, and such. The NRA is nothing more than a bought-and-paid-for subsidiary of the gun manufacturers, whose businesses would be affected by even modest gun control measures, never mind the sort of measures which obtain in places like the UK and Australia.

Fuck you to the apathetic electorate, which, if surveys are correct, overwhelmingly supports gun control laws, but either keeps voting the same cretins in, or doesn't bother to show up to vote.

And, don't forget, fuck you to our feckless "pro-life" politicians who rail against Planned Parenthood but don't get too worked up when actual life is taken in the form of shooting sprees. Wouldn't go quite well with the base if they seemed at all reasonable.

The frontier is closed. The Wild West is no more. If the black helicopters were coming, your AR-15 couldn't do squat about it. So fuck you. Fuck you to everyone whose first instinct at the news of another gun horror is to rush to defend guns, or to call it "isolated", or, worse, to say it's a "false flag" or a hoax. Because of you more and more people have as one of their thoughts: "Will I make it home without getting shot".

I'll probably write the same thing again. Moloch must be appeased.
