Speaking to The Atlantic and US News, Grayson basically called President Obama a liar in the face of overwhelming evidence against the Assad regime regarding the use of chemical weapons. US News reports:
Rep. Alan Grayson, D-Fla., who is aggressively lobbying against a military strike on Syria, says the Obama administration has manipulated intelligence to push its case for U.S. involvement in the country's two-year civil war. This is a flat out lie. Not only has the administration publicly declassified an intelligence report making the case, members of Congress from John Boehner to Barbara Lee have said that they are satisfied with the Administration's case that Assad used chemical weapons, whether or not they believe it makes the case for military action on that merit alone. As I reported earlier, Barbara Lee - who's been a champion of the anti-war cause long before Grayson found time to get his billionaire privileged behind to Congress, made clear the position of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, saying the administration has "been very persuasive about the intelligence."
Grayson made the accusation in an interview published Wednesday by The Atlantic and offered more detail in a Thursday discussion with U.S. News. He says members of Congress are being given intelligence briefings without any evidence to support administration claims that Syrian leader Bashar Assad's troops used chemical weapons.
Grayson's tactics are as abhorrent as his moral compass. In his interview to The Atlantic, Grayson admits he is working with Republicans to bring this down, but says he's at liberty to say no more.
Are you also working with Republicans on this effort?Yes of course. The Democratic congressman can tell you all about his contention that the Democratic president and his administration is lying, but his own dealings with Republicans? That's classified. Now there's a matter of national security.
I don't feel at liberty to go into a lot of detail about that at this point, but the answer is yes.
While his conspiracy, I mean "alliance" with Republicans must remain secret, however, Grayson has no problem turning to radical far-Right anti-Obama sites to try to impeach the judgment of the intelligence community and the Obama administration.
He points to an article published by The Daily Caller that alleges the communications actually showed Syrian officers were surprised by the alleged chemical weapon attack. The communications, according to unnamed sources paraphrased in article, were intercepted by Israeli intelligence and "doctored so that it leads a reader to just the opposite conclusion."Daily Caller? What the f*ck kind of progressive reads Tucker Carlson's Daily Caller - a far Right, racist, wingnut site whose vulgar contempt for this president is perhaps only exceeded by Drudge?
Besides conspiring with the Tea Party, I mean the Republicans, to deny members of Congress a vote of conscience (he admits he is "whipping" this vote), Grayson has introduced another tried and true tactic of political opposition: fundraising. He has launched a website to gather signatures (because the other bazillion websites gathering signatures for the same reason just weren't enough). Here is what you see on his "Don't Attack Syria" site, before and after you sign his petition:
Hey y'all. The familiar emoprog RED donate button is back! Yay.
Whatever side of the Syria debate you are on, it is shameful to raise money off the tragedy in Syria and the public sentiments affecting the debate. It is morally bankrupt to try to fill your campaign coffers off an emotionally charged debate about a place where children are being gassed and innocent is being slaughtered by the hundreds by the use of weapons of mass destruction. In this debate, only conscience has place, and Grayson has none.
And in a debate of conscience, there is no lying. Grayson's attempt to discount the intelligence assessment presented by the Obama administration - after it has been well accepted by the most progressive members of Congress - is a crude sign that he doesn't care about telling the truth, as long as he is able to persuade you to "his" side.
Alan Grayson is ethically challenged, morally bankrupt, and devoid of conscience, even in a matter of war and peace. This kind of person has no place in the United States Congress or in the Democratic party - or at least, he shouldn't.
"Hahaha, hahaha" - loud, proud, and bone-chilling. That was Grayson's response when he appeared on Chris Hayes' MSNBC show tonight and even Hayes, an ardent opponent of military action, pointed out that saying it's "not our problem" sounds a bit morally obtuse. Mediaite has the whole story, and all credit for the update goes to them, including the video. I urge everyone to check it out.
I have seen and understood people advocating for non-intervention and non-military options and humanitarian option, but this is the first I have seen someone claiming to be a liberal laughing it up that innocent children are being slaughtered by the hundreds and it's "not our problem." This is inhumane. This is sick. It makes me literally, physically, violently sick. SICK, SICK, SICK.
