...To all the American people, keep it up. If you want to see a bipartisan compromise, a bill that can pass both houses of Congress and that I can sign, let your member of Congress know. Make a phone call, send an email, tweet. Keep the pressure on Washington, and we can get past this.
So let's do it again. House.gov. Congressional switchboard: (202)224-3121. Speaker Boehner's office: (202) 225-0600, @SpeakerBoehner.
Let's burn up the phone lines one more time. Let's get those fax machines going. Let's overflow their email boxes. Let's let our Congresscritters hear from us again. Even if you have called before. Call them now.
The House might vote any time today, as the Speaker's move to hold the economy hostage to the passage of the Teabagging incarnation so-called "balanced budget amendment" (that is anything but balanced) - one that would protect corporate jet tax breaks and the tax welfare system for the super rich by making it impossible to raise any kind of additional tax revenue, which under the Republican sham while forcing massive cuts in services and the social safety net. The Republican version of the unbalanced budget amendment would require a two-thirds vote in Congress to change the corporate tax welfare system, and its preservation will require, and no such supermajority votes will be needed, to take away Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, college assistance for students, education funding, or the funding for food safety and the funding to protect your drinking water.
Call the House now. Tell your member of Congress you want a compromise that will raise the debt ceiling, one that will raise it beyond the end of 2012 it needs to be raised through the end of 2012 so we do not face this kabuki theater again in time for Christmas, and that a balanced approach is the only possible way to get out of this mess.
We are succeeding:
The president repeated that message on Friday, and House telephone lines are jammed again.IMPORTANT UPDATE - Tweeting the GOP Twits: The President isn't kidding around, folks. He told us to call and email and twitter, and to aid the process, OFA has undertaken the effort to post the twitter handles of Republican Congresscritters! This is brilliant - we have crashed their servers, jammed their phone lines, now let's overflow Twitter on these twits. I will try to post these updates as often as I can, but please stay on Twitter today and follow @BarackObama tweets so you can get these updates.
Telephone circuits were reported at near capacity around 11:45 a.m. [Eastern Time] The office of the House’s chief administrative officer did not yet have total call-in figures, but spokesman Dan Weiser told The Hill: “Call volume is up, some people may experience some busy signals.”
You heard the President. So here's what we're doing: throughout the day we'll post the Twitter handles of GOP lawmakers in each state.
