If there's one thing racists need to learn in the Year of Our Lord MMXVIII is this: once the target of their bigotry whips out his or her phone, they should cut their losses and hightail it back to their trailer park.

Today's case in point: Jeff Whitman of Columbus, OH.

A raging racist named Jeff Whitman of Columbus, Ohio, is shedding white tears because his life is completely ruined. After he nearly sideswiped Charles Lovett, a Black man, on the highway, he followed him home — in his work vehicle that clearly read “Uriah’s Heating, Cooling and Refrigeration.” He went on an n-word tirade that was caught on camera, and now everyone knows who he is.

A: It's stupid to follow a man back to his residence in order to spew racist vitriol at him. B: It's beyond stupid to do it in your company van.

Now, faced with the ruination of everything he worked for, he's crying the tears of the unjust, not understanding the hatred he would face for his spittle-flecked tirade.

This has been a spring and summer of various and sundry racists getting caught on camera in their full-blown meltdowns, and then suffering consequences for their actions, consequences they never thought they'd have to face. (Permit Patty still takes the cake, after calling the police on a barbecuing black family, then breaking down once the cops arrive, crying that she's being harassed.)

It's a sign that things are not a Trumpian hellscape. That most Americans see these stories and react with revulsion to the blatant bigotry. They're small, yet satisfying victories, and point the way to a future we want.
