"I'm a subject, not a target, of the investigation! No collusion!"
From the Washington Post's bombshell piece last night in which it's confirmed that Special Counsel Robert S. Mueller III has been looking at Trump all this time, this is the quote which stuck out for me:
So, yes, based on a bit of semantics, Donald Trump thinks he's in the clear.
Now, I don't know about you. But if I were told I was the subject of a criminal investigation, I'd soil my pants. That Trump doesn't realize that being the subject of an investigation is not a good thing is further indication of his stupidity and noticeable mental decline.
And more than a few people were aghast that Mueller wanted to write a report detailing Trump's obstruction, thinking that this would be the end of the investigation. Nothing in the Post's piece indicates this. If anything, it seems that Mueller wants to write the report to answer the public's questions, and then keep investigating.
Of course, we're getting all of this from, probably, the Trump camp. What we know for sure is that Mueller's team does not leak. None of this is coming from the special counsel's office. At the end of the day we don't know what Mueller knows, and neither does Trump.
But, back to Trump's fugue state. If the article is accurate, we have a delusional moron sitting in the Oval Office with his finger on the nuclear button. His whole narrative that he wasn't under investigation has blown up, and he still thinks he's in the clear because of a matter of word choice. This would be hilarious were it not so serious. And as Democrats keep winning special elections, pointing to a Democratic Congress next year and real investigations and oversight of the executive branch, expect Trump to become more deranged. His situation is becoming increasingly untenable, but none of his sycophants have the nous to rein him in. We're in for a bumpy ride.
