Monday open thread—The day after the storm
As one tweeter commented (paraphrasing): 70 years ago Americans would gather around their radios to listen to Pres. Roosevelt and his fireside chats as he guided the country through the Great Depression and then the war. Yesterday, they gathered around their televisions to listen to a porn star detail her assignation with the current interloper in the West Wing. How far we've fallen.
But I don't blame Stormy Daniels; if anything, she's proving much more of a patriot than Trump's GOP enablers in the Congress and the country at large.
And what has stuck out for me from the interview was the fact that she was threatened to keep quite about her affair in the crassest, most vile way. Who we have in office right now is nothing more than a two-bit mafioso, using threats of violence to intimidate and cow his accusers, as this tweet makes clear:
I will never forgive everyone who made this possible, who made it possible for this creature to occupy the Oval Office. From his voters afraid of change, to the Jill Stein voters whose stupidity made it possible for him to win the vote in key states. And, of course, there's Russia. Once we have this regime in jail, there will be a reckoning with this hostile power seeking to undermine our system of government.
