A few words on purity

A few words on purity

The Senate just moved to cut off debate on Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination for the Supreme Court, 51-49.

Many people are apoplectic about a serial abuser, drunkard, liar, and gambler being on the highest court in the land. Especially since he will be nothing more than Donald Trump’s poodle, regardless of what he wrote in yesterday’s Wall Street Journal op-ed.

More than a few of those people now up in arms didn’t vote for Hillary Clinton in 2016. Some voted for Jill Stein. Some wrote in Bernie Sanders’ name. Some just stayed home out of apathy.

To them I say: welcome to a heaping cup of “fuck you.”

We warned you that the Court was on the ballot. We warned you that Roe was on the ballot. But it didn’t matter.

Republican voters knew that, and voted accordingly. You scoffed and said “Don’t threaten us with the court!” A few of the dimmer bulbs even believed that we could just vote justices off the court, pointing again to the paltry nature of our civics education.

You listened to luminaries like Susan Sarandon, she of the “I don’t vote with my vagina”. She doesn’t have to; she can always jet off to Europe if things get too hairy here.

Your blind adherence to “principles” doomed you. Your lack of pragmatism and strategic thinking put Brett Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court. And now you wail and gnash your teeth, nonplussed and wondering how we got to this pass. How did we get here? Look in the mirror.

I’m really tired of fighting 2016 over again. But a large enough segment of the Resistance thinks, quite frankly, that their shit don’t stink. They don’t see that they are part of the reason a Resistance is necessary. They think their actions didn’t in part lead to where we are now. They are a lodestone around the neck of the Resistance, because they are blissfully unaware of the role they played in 2016. Or, worse, they’re proud of it, and see it as a way station on the path to Revolution. They look at l’affaire Kavanaugh and see something else which will cause the masses to rise, indulging in Leninist fantasies. Meanwhile, most of us just want to make it out of this in one piece.

I wrote a while ago of the difference between allies of convenience and allies of conviction, mostly as it pertained to conservative never-Trumpers. The same applies to leftists who didn’t vote for Hillary. Never take your eyes off of them, because they’ll knife you every chance they get. For proof of this just look at the meltdown Michael Moore has been having over Kavanaugh. He “supported” Hillary, much like Bernie Sanders “supported” her. And now he’s back to his shtick of bashing Democrats. Always mistrust millionaire Communists.

So, good people who as of late discovered that actions have consequences: I hope you will derive lessons from this. I have no doubt some of you will. But most of you? Yeah, you’re just as blind as Trumpists.
