The predator and the prey
I was riding my bike while on vacation recently and I saw a heron in the path in front of me so I stopped to observe the bird who appeared to be stalking something in some bushes. In a flash the heron had a snake hanging from it's beak and the snake began fighting for it's life. The snake was thrashing it's body and wrapping itself around the beak of the bird. The heron in reaction kept repeating the cycle of shaking it's head in order to get the snake off of it's beak and then dropping the snake and then picking it up again. This cycle went on about four times until the snake although still alive became so weakened that it was unable to put up any resistance and the heron then swallowed the snake and walked away.
What I observed was a predator and it's prey. The reality of the predator and the prey might be perfectly acceptable for the animal kingdom but it is completely unsuitable for the human kingdom. We are not animals. We are human beings yet there are those who have fully invested themselves in this animal like behavior and it is possible to see the damage that this behavior has caused.
If we observe the world around us we can see that life has a tremendous will to survive and humanity individually and as a group shares the same will of survival. For a long time we have lived under the belief that enabled us to justify an individual's survival at the expense of everyone and everything else. We justified that because we were unwilling to realize and recognize that we are an interconnected interwoven and interdependent whole. The damage caused by this destructive mode of thinking and behavior has continued to grow over time bringing us to the present where we find a level of inequality of all kinds that is clearly unsustainable. We mistakenly wanted to believe that we were separate but in believing that we are separate and in a competition for survival it has been possible to be divorced from concern for anyone else but ourselves and that has brought us to where we are today.
The people who have identified with and justified being predators have given themselves the right to exploit everyone and everything for personal gain at the expense of everyone else. These people are not creators as they are not creative of anything and they are not productive of anything of value. They are destroyers and they are destructive and by their continual exploitation and lack of concern about the consequences of their behavior they have brought about a condition in which the potential is that after they have exploited the life out of everything around them they will need to cannibalize in order to survive and in the end they would be unable to survive because they would have caused the destruction of themselves.
We can no longer afford to live in denial of the reality of the outcome of this behavior as we can see that if we continue down this path this is where we are headed. The necessity for change is present. We can see that if we continue to go down this path we will destroy ourselves but we have another option. We have the capacity to understand and value that we are an interwoven interconnected and interdependent whole. We are one family and if we were to act in accordance with that and created systems to reflect that we would be living in harmony with our true nature. Due to the potent will to survive which exists in the core of our beings we are becoming aware of the need to change and growing in the will to change. Due to the potent will to survive our longing to find a better way is growing and the belief in the illusion of the past is dying.
It is understandable to look at what we see taking place today and feel discouraged. Trump is as the head of a large entity with vast tentacles and those who have attached themselves to him are a part of this monstrosity. The whole entity is in a state of desperation because they have spent their lives seeing existence through polarization that has been expressed through the belief that if you are not the predator than there is no other option than that you will be the prey and they are feeling the walls closing in on them. They are sensing on some level that their time is up. They are sensing on some level that humanity is changing.
They have become unable to hide what they are doing. We see it. They have been living under the illusion that they would be able to remain in the seat of the predator and that there would be no fallout from that and now they are feeling like prey and therefore they have become desperate and they are acting out of desperation. They are like the snake that was in the beak of the heron. They can sense their time is up and they are panic stricken and they are thrashing about and they are determined to remain in denial that they are the cause of what they are now experiencing.
When a someone is in a building that is on fire there are very few who would be willing to be so divorced from reality that they would do nothing and therefore end up being consumed by the fire. The will to survive is powerful and we are seeing in front of us a building that is on fire and the fire is growing and those who are unwilling to confront the reality of what is taking place will end up consumed by the fire.
The will to survive is powerful and because that will is so deeply embedded in us we are growing in a new understanding of survival and the old belief which is based on an illusion is dying. The understanding that we are an interdependent interwoven whole which is the reality is growing and the belief that we are separate which is an illusion is dying. This is how evolution takes place. This is how we evolve. Due to our will to survive the motivation to change is now growing and it is pushing us to evolve.
This is why I have hope in the face of the ugliness that we are now experiencing. Our will to survive is causing us to evolve and the evolution that is taking place is that of the transformation of our relationship to ourselves and to each other. This change in our relationship includes a change in our relationship to everything including the earth. The basis of the understanding of who we are and why we are here is being reestablished. We are like a caterpillar about to shed it's skin in order to transform into a butterfly that can soar. We are transforming into something of a finer quality. We are on the verge of shedding the beliefs that separated us and put us on the path of self destruction and in it's place we are growing the ability tocreate a world that honors our diversity and our unity. We have the opportunity to play a part in assisting this to come about. The time for change has come.
