News has just broken that Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein has appointed former FBI Director Robert S. Mueller III as special counsel to head the Russia investigation.
Reading the tea leaves after Rosenstein was thrown under the bus, I wasn't quick to cast him as a partisan hack. Things take time, and the wheels grind slowly. I had a feeling he was just waiting for the moment to make his move. And now he has.
What I recall of Mueller is that he's a man of impeccable integrity. In this climate, there could be few better people to be put in charge of this investigation. If Donald Trump thought that ridding himself of James Comey would put the kibosh on the investigation, well, we all know he's a moron.
This is yet another developing open thread.
