Alabama special election open thread - A word from the Liberal Redneck
It's election day in Alabama, and there's a better than even chance that its electorate is about to send a man who trolled teenaged girls as a 30-something will be sent to the Senate. This is what the partisan divide has come to in this country, after the various movements among disenfranchised groups for civil rights, the explosion of rabid right-wing media feeding fear and paranoia, and the rise of the radical, fascist right to a practical take-over of the Republican party. Lyndon Johnson predicted that signing the civil rights and voting acts would lose the South to the Democratic Party for a generation; I doubt he foresaw just what a backlash it would be.
But, all is not lost. We turn again to Trae Crowder, aka Liberal Redneck, for some words of wisdom on Roy Moore.
Even if Doug Jones ends up losing, if he does so in the single digits it should strike fear into the GOP. Trump won Alabama by 28 points. Moore is Steve Bannon's guy; if he gets more candidates like Moore to run in states where Trump's margin of victory was much narrower, this will destroy the GOP in the Senate.
Buckle in, kids.
