Thanksgiving Open Thread
Happy Thanksgiving to our TPV community!
Unlike our nation's press secretary, I won't demand each and every one of you state what you're thankful for. Instead, I'll share with you a special tradition, rooted in my childhood. For those of us who grew up in the Greater Boston area, each year our local classic rock stations would play the anti-war anthem "Alice's Restaurant" by Arlo Guthrie. As someone who now fights for social justice, I can't say for certain that the song directly impacted my career choice but I know that it definitely piqued my interest, especially as a high school student who was simultaneously discovering my love for both classic rock and American history. Arlo's anthem was one of the first anti-war songs I ever heard and it stuck with me, especially as our country entered armed conflict in Iraq and Afghanistan. For those of you with eighteen minutes to spare, I present to you "Alice's Restaurant", one of the quintessential anti-war songs and a staple of Thanksgiving commutes throughout New England. Enjoy!
