And someone stole his strawberries

And someone stole his strawberries

Our Moron Hitler began the day with this tweet:

Yes, the media isn't worshiping the very ground on which he treads, so it must be punished by having their broadcast licenses revoked. For the good of the country, of course.

Imagine, if you will, Pres. Barack Obama opining that Fox News was nothing but a Republican propaganda outfit which should be taken off the air. The howls would have deafened the entire nation.

Every day brings a new outrage from this moron. Trump wanted the presidency merely because he thought of the ni-clang could get elected, so could he. Now that he has it, he discovers that he actually has to do work. He doesn't like work. He also discovers that the political press is not Access Hollywood. It won't write puff pieces stroking his member. So, still under the illusion that he was elected dictator, he threatens to silence his critics. Just like his friend, Vladimir Putin.

I'd be more worried if this whole reality weren't so farcical. I and my favorite patron Joel were discussing the parallels between 2017 and 1933. The majority of Germans in 1933 were looking for a strongman to rescue the country from the chaos in which it was mired. The Nazis had at least tacit approval for what they did from a majority of the population. America in 2017 is far different. The core which supports Trump is the same core which supports any Republican. Despite his shouting about "American carnage", the United States of 2017 is stable and prosperous, something which could not be said for Weimar Germany.

This isn't to say that it's beyond Moron Hitler to create a casus belli and try to create conditions of crisis. But, in spite of all the trouble which 2017 has brought, the one thing which strikes me is the sturdiness of American political institutions. He couldn't get Obamacare repealed. Tax "reform" seems a hard get as well. His Muslim ban keeps getting slapped down in court. Yes, he's inflicting much damage. But, so far, the country hasn't descended into an existential moment.

However, that being said, I'd rather not push our luck. Every day which passes puts Trump in a more and more dictatorial mood. Eventually he'll press the issue. It would be much better for him to no longer be in power before he goes completely off the deep end.
