The one who couldn't run away fast enough

The one who couldn't run away fast enough

News is breaking that Comboverlord Donald Trump has chosen Indiana Governor Mike Pence to be his running mate.

I guess that having a man like Newt Gingrich on the ticket who has as many wives as Trump would remind people of Shariah or something.

And Chris Christie is so good at getting McDonald orders right that he was too valuable to move into the VP slot.

In Mike Pence, Trump gets someone who is as idiotic as he is, but with a soupcon of evangelical zeal. Pence will assure the end-timers that Donnie will push the button and hasten Jesus' return.

What a sad pass the GOP has come to. George H. W. Bush was no great shakes, but he wasn't a lunatic either. He was a Republican president one could learn to live with. Every GOP president and nominee since him has been proof that the Republican Party is bereft of ideas.

Now we have a con man at the head of the ticket, with a governor whose state will be happy to see the back of him. (Funny thing, GOP governors invariably end up being unpopular dumpster fires in their states, but their states keep electing GOP governors in the hope that "this time it'll be different." That's not the way any of this works.)

So raise a toast to Mike Pence. May his days in the national spotlight end on November 8, 2016.
