I am not usually much for large bodies of quotes for a blog post; I think the redundancy reduces the quality of original, authentic content.
But this is an exception. The outgoing Democratic leader of the Senate, Harry Reid, has taken aim directly at Donald Trump and his backers who have been doing their level best to make the lives of Americans - Hispanic Americans, African Americans, LGBT Americans, Asian Americans, women and girls - a living hell. No amount of "summarizing" will do it justice, so here it is, in full:
This is on the people who elected Trump. This is on the people who fancy themselves non-racists but did not see rank racism, sexism and xenophobia as disqualifying for dogcatcher, let alone the presidency of the United States, and who now do not see enough reason to stand alongside their fellow Americans being threatened and bullied and fight back. This is on the people who saw the danger but did not cast their ballots for the only real alternative to this calamity, because, you know, "conscience."
This is on you. But know that we will fight back. Know that we will not let you turn back the tide of history. We fight.
